The MLB Players Association announced that they have opened an investigation into the free agent market. They are attempting to find out why older players like Barry Bonds and Kenny Lofton still remain unsigned.
At the end of this investigation, should the Players Association find that things don't quite add up, they could file a grievance on the issue of collusion. Collusion occurs when two or more MLB teams cooperate for their mutual benefit, and by doing so, infringe upon the rights of another.
What the MLBPA might not realize, however, is that the answer to their question is staring them right in the right in the face.
Did it ever occur to the players association that Barry Bonds could be going to jail and that 29 out of the 30 teams are in markets that hate Barry Bonds and would likely boo him?
Did it ever occur to the players association that Kenny Lofton has played on nine different teams in the past six years? Or that he hasn't played a full season since 2001? Or maybe they're just overlooking the simple fact that the man is about to turn 41 years old?
There is no conspiracy going on between the owners of the Major League Baseball teams. Teams, for some odd reason, just don't want to sign convicts and old outfielders. The Players Association needs to stop trying to find things that MLB is doing wrong and start working on building a relationship to help keep our sport in one piece.

You know, Barry Bonds would make a great addition to any AL team in need of a DH with power. Are fans really going to throw crap at him? Who cares if they boo him the man has heard much worse. How long will they be booing him anyways after he's hitting .290 with 5 HRs and 16 RBIs in the first month?
His knee has to be at least 80% which is about double what it has been in the past two years. Plus all he's been doing is working out and training and staying in shape.
We've seen what he can do with the usual amount of time in the offseason, now he's had an extra few months who knows what kind of shape Barry is in. Someone WILL sign him by August, thats a "stone-cold-lock"

While your right about there being no conspiracy but you shouldn't label Barry Bonds a convict; yet haha. A convict is someone who has been proved and sentence for a guilty crime. Moreover many of the problems facing Baseball are a direct result of the MLB and the Players Association turning their heads toward steroid abuse.
Following the 1994 strike baseball needed to get fans back into their seats, and they did so by increasing home runs. The parks are smaller and both the players and the balls are juiced. For them to throw the players under the bus for using when they clearly knew (as the rest of america did) that they're players were taking illegal performance enhancing drugs is shameful.

I'm just glad that it is the player association and not congress. I think I speak for everyone when I say congress needs to stay away from major league sports and concentrate on their own problems.
