No. 1 Serena Williams def. No. 9 Ana Ivanovic, 6-4, 6-1.
After a shaky start to the women's final at the Western & Southern Open, No. 1 Serena Williams tore apart the court, and No. 9 Ana Ivanovic, to win her first-ever title in Cincinnati.
Williams went down 1-3 in the first set, but she recovered well with a few breaks to take the first set 6-4.
After taking home the first set, Williams played perfect tennis against an opponent that could only watch in awe of the American's game.
Williams, who unleashed 12 aces in the two-set victory, gave herself plenty of momentum heading into the U.S. Open, which begins in eight days.
The win marked the third consecutive time Williams defeated Ivanovic in 2014 after the Serbian got the best of her at the Australian Open.
