The evolution of Paige as a top star in the WWE continued on Sunday at SummerSlam 2014 when she defeated AJ Lee for the Divas Championship.

WrestlingINC.com had the news:

The WWE Divas account wished the winner a happy birthday:

The rivalry between these two women has extended for months. After Paige debuted and won the title, AJ took the belt back upon returning from her own leave of absence and brought the Divas Championship to where she felt it belonged.

Both matches were very short, but the WWE Universe finally got an extended bout at Battleground. The two women had both been portraying faces leading into their match on the July PPV, but the loss changed Paige.

Lee tweeted out her congratulations after the match to Paige, but offered a stern message as well:

After being handed a defeat in her rematch for the title, Paige began acting differently and called her former friend crazy. The two women brawled, but Paige eventually got her vengeance when she struck Lee from behind on the Aug. 1 episode of SmackDown.

AJ fell from the stage and was looked at by medical personnel, but Paige wished her former friend well on Twitter:

With Paige taking the title back, the battle between the two women looks to be just starting to heat up. It was Paige who was built strongest leading into SummerSlam, and it’s a matter of time before Lee gets the upper hand on television.

These two combatants are clearly the best women’s wrestlers in WWE, so allowing the title to switch hands again has made this one of the most memorable storylines in the division of the last decade.

The fun should continue into Night of Champions.

Lee and Paige are great in the ring and continue to put on excellent matches. As long as the WWE begins booking this storyline better now that SummerSlam is over and the focus can be shifted to more secondary angles, this program could extend for another three months.

Unless the WWE has something special up its sleeve (like the surprise return of Kharma), Paige vs. AJ is the best feud there is in the Divas division.
