The NFL preseason continues on Thursday following a Week 1 in which home teams dominated, winning 14 of 16 games, with seven games ending in totals of 30 points or less.
The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Chicago on Thursday to take on the Bears. Following a strong 34-28 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago opened as a four-point favorite in NFL betting over Jacksonville, who notched a 16-10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in its preseason opener.
The Eagles travel to New England on Thursday to take on the Patriots. While the Pats are pegged as three-point favorites over Philly in NFL preseason wagering, recent trends tend to favor Philly, whose loss to the Bears was just its second road defeat in preseason action since 2011.
In addition, the road team has claimed victory in the past four preseason meetings between the two clubs, with the over reigning supreme in each of those games. The total in Thursday's game is pegged at 42.
Tampa Bay is a two-point home favorite against the Miami Dolphins, who dropped a 16-10 decision to the Atlanta Falcons last weekend. The Bucs are an impressive 8-2-1 against the spread in their last 11 games against the Dolphins while the under has rewarded bettors in 16 of the past 18 preseason meetings between the Florida rivals. The total is pegged at 37, an indication of the feeble offense displayed by both the Jags and Dolphins in last week's games.
The San Francisco 49ers will look to rebound from a dismal performance in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens in their NFL preseason opener. The Niners rushed for just two first downs and had a total of 71 rushing yards while being soundly beaten 23-3.
Despite the loss, the 49ers are 3.5-point favorites in NFL preseason betting over the Denver Broncos this Sunday. The Niners have struggled head-to-head against the Broncos, winning just three of their last 13 meetings while posting a miserable 2-11 record ATS in those games.
The Broncos travel to San Francisco on a high after getting a small degree of revenge against the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, whom they knocked off 21-16 this past weekend.
In other NFL preseason action, the Buffalo Bills, 20-18 winners over the Panthers in Carolina last week, are three-point underdogs on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers while Johnny Manziel (the subject of an interesting double prop bet) and the Cleveland Browns will take the field as three-point dogs against Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins.
