In my opinion Brett Favre is one of the top three NFL quarterbacks ever.

However, I must admit, there is a very unhealthy obsession nationwide with Favre, especially in Wisconsin. I have been to Wisconsin a few times, and no matter the day of the week, you are bound to see a #4 jersey.

If you go to school with one little guy in Ridgefield, Connecticut, you see him in a green #4 jersey everyday—since Christmas 2003. Yes, you did the math right, that's about four and a half years of him wearing the same Brett Favre jersey.

December 31, 2007, the Brett Favre fan finally attended his first Packers game at Lambeau Field in his favorite jersey.

Don't worry; his classmates did not have to avoid him due to the odor of his jersey. His mom was sure to wash it every other day, and mend it if needed.

His father states that his son has become more worried about his appearance, so he decided to finally shed the jersey on his 12th birthday on April 23rd.

I love Brett Favre too, but I think these parents may have needed to take a little more control of this boy. I mean four years in the same shirt is a bit overboard, don’tcha think!

Weren't there any family gatherings where he needed to dress up!

I tell ya, there are some crazy people out there!

  1. Since when do people to come on Bleacher Report to hate on fans?

    1. I agree, Joe. Why does someone have to hate on another person for being such a loyal, true fan? I guess most people or more concerned with just jumping on a band wagon when it rolls by and hopping on to the next when it's convenient.

Paul, you've gotta let it go. It's alright. He's just a little boy! No animals were harmed in the 4+ years of this jersey being worn.

  2. guys i really didnt see it as "hating on" another fan. he was merely reporting on a very interesting story. also there is a line between fan loyalty and unhealthy obsession.

  3. I didn't see it as hating on a fan, just as kinda looking at an interesting situation. I've been wearing my Packers wristband for over a year straight, but that's not a jersey, so I think mine is healthier lol.

  4. Ridgefield, Connecticut! He should be a Giants or Jets fan!

  5. Theres a difference between being a fan and being a fanatic bordering on lunacy.

I expect this behavior from Wisonsinites but not from a kid who has Tom Brady playing in his backyard. There's also no excuse at any age to wear a shirt or jersey that does not cover your waist line; unless your a hot chick.

  6. And if anyone is Bandwagon it's this kid.
What your gonna be crazy enough to wear the same jersey for four years straight then just shun it because he retires?

    1. 4 years is a long time to consider it bandwagon. That's a third of the kid's life! That being said, kids change as they grow up. Most interests I had at that age changed as I got older.

Sure I would return to those interests from time to time, but I can't think of too many things that I was interested in everyday for 4 years that I would consider bandwagon.

Also, there is nothing wrong with this kid loving Brett Favre when Tom Brady is in his backyard, they are totally opposite players. One is a gunslinger from Mississippi that has an aboslute cannon for an arm and little to no discretion on how many defenders is too many to squeeze it in between. He is also tough as nails, and started every game for over a decade.

Brady on the other hand is a pretty boy, he is on magazine covers for his dress and high class. He picks apart defenses with his careful preparation and deadly accuracy. If you want to compare the two, I'd say they're both popular and successful at their position, but I'd hardly say that they are substitutes for one another. Let the kid idolize the last great player who played for love of the game.

  7. It's not a matter of substiution Dustin, it's the fact that you'd expect a kid from the east coast to root for the guy who's won 3 superbowls and been to four in the last few years. I never said there's anything wrong with, it's just almost as odd as wearing the same shirt for four years.
Let me guess a Packers fan?
Who else would see it ok for someone to wear the same jersey for four years straight? Or would not realize that the bandwagon comment was a joke.

"the last great player who played for love of the game" - Is that from an article of "The top ten reasons i'd suck Brett Favre's penis?". Because it's possibly the sappiest, and flat out ridiculous comment I've ever read. You should contact ESPN and get a job with Bob Ley on Outside the Lines; you'd be perfect.

Favre was a badass and is one of the greatest qb's ever to play; but the slurpfest that has been going on is completely overblown and Favre's image has been crafted into much more than he is. He's a gunslinging, beer-drinking, ex-pill-popping, southern kid at heart who loved the game of football and played his ass off; Not an icon for all that is good and heroic in sports.

    1. I don't deny that I'm a Packer fan, but I watched Favre in October of '92, and September of '94, and November of '02 and all the other weeks that most NFL fans didn't care to see.

Most casual fans of the game only see him as an old (he's not even 40 yet, but people have been saying he's old since 2002 or so), and only see him on his post-Superbowl teams.

The Brett Favre I watched trashed talked and head butted Warren Sapp, played a whole season with a broken thumb on his throwing arm, tackled teammates full-speed in the endzone, dove headfirst on scrambles, and threw snowballs at teammates in sub-freezing games that may or may not matter.

He was a prankster in the lockerroom, and a kid that had a grin on his face while he told jokes in the huddle. He was the only sucker stupid enough to try and throw under-handed passes from his knees, and the only sucker tough enough to play the next week with a broken rib (or in two cases, a separated shoulder on his other arm).

I remember one game that was in mid-season when he suffered a concussion on second down, was taken off the field for third down, and without being cleared to play or even understanding where he was, came in to make an amazing throw downfield on fourth down that ended up winning them the game.

Sure, I'm biased, but at least I've seen the guy play game in and game out for 15 years or more. I'm just sick of the fans on the West coast and East coast saying "he's over-rated, he's been washed up for 7 or 8 years, and people need to realize he wasn't that great".

He's got 3 MVP's, he's won the big game, has almost every passing record there is, and is the winningest QB in NFL history.

I know it's a long response, and not aimed directly at you, I'm just putting it out there that I see more to Favre than you might see.

  8. wow...thats pretty crazy if u ask me......who would do that???my boyfriend loves breet favre and i dont even think he would do something like that even though he does have jerseys but he is to scared to waer them cuz he done want to mess them up......

  9. I agree with your assesment of Favre and he's certainly the type of player you can't help but love to watch. I see the same Favre and I have no problem with him or his play.
There is no merit whatsoever to the thoughts of some that Brett Favre was overrated or washed up. The guy played and won with what I consider to be some very very dubious offensive units and like you've pointed out he was the most durable qb ever.
He's not the single greatest QB to play the game but he is arguably the most fun to watch playing the game.

  10. cool.

  11. I think this article is more a commentary on parenting than anything else. Remember, the kid is now 12. So at age 8 he decided he wanted to wear the Favre jersey everyday. A halfway decent parent probably would have said no and told him that a shirt should not be worn more than once a week.

However, nowadays there are so many parents who just bow down to the needs of their kids. If the kid was that insistent on wearing the shirt and the parents were okay with it, the least they could have done was told him to wash it himself!
