Gator Ramblings
Rather than go over what all sportswriters are talking about, I feel like looking at some of the players and things that will be important moving forward in the season.
First the best thing that happened was the benching of Kyle Jackson. We knew it was coming. Today I feel sorry for a senior who just doesn’t have it. I am sure he tried very hard. He just does not have it. My friends and I figured he would play a few plays and Major Wright would come in. Well Jackson missed a sure tackle on third down, that ended up being converted for a first down. The man had to turn back towards the QB, stop jump high for the pass. Jackson still managed to fly in and completely miss a tackle on a man who was not moving. Then the next play missed another tackle. He was pulled and Major Wright entered the game. He made a few tackles during the game that we noted Jackson would have missed. The good news is we have a guy who is going to be a great one.
Noel Devine looked great in the West Virginia victory. He needed to probably get out of the state of Florida and get a clean start. We have our own in Chris Rainey. Who got in Meyer’s dog house last week. He messed up and word is talked back to Meyer after his mistake. On top of that a fumble. But we saw Devine and what he can do. Then late in the game Rainey got a run and we saw the shiftiness and quick moves and feet. I think that one run will help him get some playing time in meaningful games. I suspect he may get some carries against Ole Miss. I would really love to see a two man punt return team with Rainey and James back there. Would be electrifying!!!
UT probably has the top player coming out of high school last year in Corner Eric Berry. I think he maybe a top end shut down corner in the NFL. He proved it by taking a Tebow pass 96 yards to the house. He will be a special one.
I think the next two games will be like this one. Ole Miss should receive a beat down. Auburn looks horrible and revenge will be on the gators mind as they come to the swamp. This should set up an LSU-UF showdown in tiger stadium. If LSU can get past the gamecocks this upcoming week it will make it the most important game for both teams this season. Steve is a mastermind and should test LSU defense. I look forward to watching that game; it should be a great one with the visor patrolling USCe sidelines. I am feeling much more confident after pounding the Vols against LSU. Only time will tell. At the beginning of the season I felt a loss would come at LSU, but we would win a second meeting in Atlanta and derail LSU title dreams. I don’t want to make a prediction of that title game if we win the first meeting. But I do believe a victory over them would shatter their focus and they may drop another game to Alabama or Arkansas. We will just have to wait and see how these next two weeks go.
Expect another blowout at Ole Miss this next week and we will check back in and see how the SEC is shaking up.
