Rory McIlroy has company at the PGA Championship.
After a picture-perfect Day 3 at Valhalla Golf Club on Saturday, the 2012 PGA champion sits at the top of a crowded leaderboard after shooting a 67 to put him at 13 under par for the week so far.
He’s one shot ahead of Bernd Wiesberger of Austria, who tied Hunter Mahan for the low round of the day with 65. Wiesberger has never finished higher than 64th in a major championship, but will find himself in the high-profile final pairing with McIlroy on Sunday.
Hot on their heels are three of the biggest names in golf. Rickie Fowler continued his strong play to stay within two shots of the lead, while Phil Mickelson and Jason Day are three shots back at 10 under. Four other players are also within striking distance, tied at nine under par.
Though his lead was threatened on Saturday, McIlroy reclaimed sole possession of top spot with a birdie on 18 to wrap up his day. He’ll try to secure a second straight major win and a move to the top of the FedEx Cup standings on Sunday.
