The worst thing that could happen for a player during a preseason game is an injury, and unfortunately this came to fruition for Chris Ivory.
Seth Walder of the New York Daily News provides the latest info on the New York Jets running back:

Seth Walder of the New York Daily News has an encouraging update:
Rex said Ivory should be fine. #nyj— Seth Walder (@SethWalderNYDN) August 8, 2014
Ivory led the Jets in rushing last season with 833 yards on an average of 4.6 yards per carry. He was expecting to have a big role again in 2014, starting the team's opening preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts and totaling 17 yards on seven carries.
However, a rib injury forced him out of the action, which is not good for a Jets squad already playing without running back Bilal Powell, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.
As a result, former Tennessee Titans veteran Chris Johnson will likely get an extended look in the offense. If the injury to Ivory turns out to be serious, the talented player might end up being the biggest beneficiary.
Teams have a tendency to be cautious in the first preseason game, so head coach Rex Ryan might be keeping one of his top running backs out as a precautionary measure.
