Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are finally headed for a major showdown at WWE SummerSlam on August 17.  The two former Shield members have been at odds since Rollins turned on The Hounds of Justice back on June 2.

During the course of the past two months, Rollins has done everything in his power to avoid a confrontation with Ambrose.  However, time has run out for him now. This match is definitely one of the most anticipated in recent memory, but unlike other bouts booked for SummerSlam, this one is not really about winning or losing.

This match is about revenge, pure and simple.  Ambrose is bent on serving up some payback, and for the first time since the betrayal took place, Rollins will have to answer for what he did.

When Rollins turned his back on Ambrose and Roman Reigns, he effectively destroyed WWE's most dominant faction of all time.  It was on that night Rollins became a made man and joined The Authority as Triple H's newest hired gun.

WWE's top heel group had a new addition in its midst, and Rollins seemed primed for a true main event run.

The heat he had from ending The Shield went with him to The Authority.  Fans just could not believe one of their favorites would dare leave them behind, and the fact that he left them for Triple H made matters that much worse.

The Game has been on top of WWE as the No. 1 corporate heel since SummerSlam in 2013.  That was the night Hunter had a betrayal of his own when he delivered the Pedigree to Daniel Bryan and cost him the WWE Championship.

Since that night, Hunter has been at the forefront of the company and has ruled with an iron fist.

Anyone who crosses him pays the price.  However, if a Superstar gets on his good side, then he's in.

This is the space Rollins now inhabits.  He serves a purpose by being at The Authority's command and thus far has done a good job of following orders.

He has also done a good job of taking care of himself.  Being affiliated with The Authority granted him instant protection in the form of both Kane and Randy Orton.  While fans likely expected this unit to self-destruct at some point, the truth is that it worked for a while.

In fact, it worked long enough for the three men to destroy Ambrose backstage on Raw. That singular moment in time proved that The Authority was committed to helping Rollins whenever the need arose.

But how much they can help him at SummerSlam is unknown right now. The only thing for certain is that Ambrose is coming for war, and he will let nothing stand in his way.  And that includes whether he wins or loses.

Most of the time, fans assume that two rising talents need to have a logical feud in which wins are traded back and forth.  Indeed, this is what Ambrose versus Rollins could turn into, as both men seem to have bright futures and need to establish themselves in WWE.

However, that is just not the case currently.  Right now, this is all about the drama, the intensity and the fun of an epic rivalry.

The excitement that these two men brought as a team will now directly translate to their feud, and the question is why anyone would really care about who did or did not emerge victorious.

The thrill of this rivalry is in the rivalry itself. Fans have waited a long time for this one, and it's all about the action that will undoubtedly happen on August 17.

Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose is one of the most highly anticipated matches in recent memory, and when it takes place at SummerSlam, the two Superstars will likely steal the show.  And that is a win for everyone.
