Can only apologise to every for a lapse in concentration and thinking I had scored the rebound before I had. Ridiculous on my behalf— Tom Huddlestone (@Huddz8) July 31, 2014
Tom Huddlestone was painfully close to being remembered as Hull City's first-ever European goalscorer.
Instead, he'll be remembered for one really, really bad miss in their first European outing.
Hull were tied with Slovakian club AS Trencin in a third-round Europa League qualifier when Shane Long won the visitors a penalty.
Huddlestone's spot attempt was saved, but he had an even better opportunity on the rebound from point-blank range when disaster struck.
He realised the error of his ways and apologised for the mishap afterward:
On a positive note, the lads worked hard and defended well throughout deserved our clean sheet. All to play for next week— Tom Huddlestone (@Huddz8) July 31, 2014
