Millsap the New Blazers Target?

LOS ANGELES, CA - APRIL 21: Paul Millsap #24 of the Utah Jazz shoots in front of Lamar Odom #7 of the Los Angeles Lakers in Game Two of the Western Conference Quarterfinals during the 2009 NBA Playoffs at Staples Center on April 21, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The Blazers may have focused in on their next target. Jason Quick is reporting that the Blazers are preparing to make Paul Millsap a hefty offer to be our back-up power forward. Here's the key quote:

"Although Millsap is a restricted free agent, meaning the Jazz can match any offer, the Blazers are preparing what one source called a "toxic" offer designed to exterminate interest from other teams."

That sounds to me like the Blazers are going to throw some serious cash at Millsap. He is a great option to backup LaMarcus, but how will he get minutes? Something else must be in the pipeline. Millsap also already expressed his willingness to be a backup, so at least we have that going for us.

Staying busy, Quick also talked about the pressure on Kevin Pritchard right now and the negativity surrounding the summer's activities. Of all the scenarios, the stalled negotiations with Roy and Aldridge seem the most troubling.

"That Roy is unsigned is particularly alarming and a signal that negotiations have snagged. Word is that Roy wants to sign for the maximum allowed five years, but the Blazers only want to commit to four years. A five-year deal would cost Portland about $82 million, although it won't be determined until the 2010-11 salary cap is set."

I hope this is just a hiccup and there is more to the story. How can we possibly deny Roy the max five year contract? I suspect it's not a huge problem; none of us are in on the conversations between agents, execs, and Roy. But seriously, lock up Roy, make him happy.
