Pitch invaders: harmless fun or the scourge of football?

While some footballers have defended fans who rushed onto the pitch, things clearly got out of hand in Tuesday's match between AS Roma and Real Madrid.

During the closing stages of the International Champions Cup (read: friendly) match in Dallas, many of the 57,512 in attendance took it upon themselves to liven things up, as per the Dallas Morning News.

And when we say many, we mean it. Dozens of fans streamed onto the pitch, causing a several-minute disruption as players and coaches looked on in disbelief.

Not a great showing for American soccer fans—or for security at the Cotton Bowl, for that matter.

As for the match itself, Roma won 1-0 on a 58th-minute goal from Francesco Totti.
