Now this is impressive.
Curtis Partch, a pitcher for the Louisville Bats (the Triple-A affiliates of the Cincinnati Reds), managed to hit the batter, the catcher and the home plate umpire all on one pitch Monday night.
Partch has a high-90s fastball, so there's a good chance this one stung a little bit. Unfortunately for catcher Tucker Barnhart and umpire David Soucy, the batter was the only one who got to take a base on the play.
The unusual play led to this reaction from the Bats:
Curtis Partch hits the batter, catcher and umpire with the same pitch before being removed. I'm not even mad, I'm kind of impressed #LouBats— Louisville Bats (@LouisvilleBats) July 29, 2014
The old saying about baseball really is true: You truly never know what you will see when you go to the ballpark on any given night.
