Lionel Messi found out on Monday that he will be prosecuted for alleged tax evasion. Shortly afterward, the Barcelona and Argentina star posted a cryptic message on Instagram.

The simple white text on black background read, "A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of a sheep."

Per Marca, the judge believes there is "enough evidence" to suggest Messi "might have known and permitted the creation and maintenance of a fictitious business network that had as its aim the avoiding of tax obligations derived from image rights business activities."

This is odd, given the timing. If Messi is referring to the legal charges against him, it comes across as rather dismissive, especially considering the seriousness of the allegations.

Interestingly enough, the NFL's Richard Sherman tweeted the same quote in response to the backlash following his post-NFC Championship Game rant in January:

We'll see if Messi provides an explanation at some point or if the post even stays up.
