The Dallas Stars have their guy.

Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk made the announcement today that they have acquired goaltender Alex Auld from the Ottawa senators in exchange for the sixth round pick (previously acquired from San Jose) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

“Alex is a proven NHL veteran with a track record of success in this league,” said Nieuwendyk. “He has size and ability, and we expect him to be an excellent goaltender for us.”

Auld has played 8 seasons in the NHL including four years in Vancouver under the coaching guidance of Dallas Stars head coach Marc Crawford.  He also spent time in Florida, Boston, Phoenix and last season with the Ottawa Senators.

Auld, who has one year remaining on his contract will start the season as backup to Marty Turco who recently stated a need to lessen his workload.
