Pioneers Win Big; McNelis Earns Second Straight Win
The Elmira Pioneers entered Thursday with a one game winning streak and a new head coach. Archie McNelis’s face isn’t new to Pioneer fans, for the past two seasons McNelis had been the first base coach for Elmira and former head coach Matt Burch’s right hand man. Coaching isn’t something foreign to McNelis, who for fifteen years coached Thomas A. Edison high school’s baseball team in Elmira Heights, N.Y. to twelve IAC (Interscolastic Athletic Conference) division titles and one Section IV Class D Championship title. McNelis will now try to not only turn the season around for the Pioneers but to also make a trip back to the NYCBL finals, and like in 2007 hoist the Championship Trophy.
The final score in McNelis’s home debut came out on the good side with a 5-2 victory over Western Divisional Foe, the Hornell Dodgers. The win puts the Pioneers on a two game winning streak and improves their record to 7-10 on the season.
