Picking Chelsea Youth Prospects Who Could Make Premier League Debuts This Season

0 of 3

Chelsea's pre-season campaign is well underway, with the Blues already playing three games in a week.

In that time, we have learned plenty about Jose Mourinho's squad, notably how his up-and-coming young players can handle being in the spotlight.

It may only be pre-season, but with so many stars yet to return from World Cup duty, the Chelsea manager has seen the club's youth team players excel, making the most of their opportunity to impress.

But of those players who have featured thus far, are any capable of cutting it in the Premier League?

Only time will tell, although for some of them they may get the opportunity to show us sooner than we think.

Looking ahead to 2014/15, let's highlight three young Chelsea stars who may well make their Premier League debuts in the coming season.

Patrick Bamford

There are plenty of ifs, buts and maybes surrounding Patrick Bamford right now.

Will he be the third choice behind Fernando Torres and Diego Costa for the coming season? Will Romelu Lukaku remain at Chelsea, pushing him down the pecking order? Will he go out on loan again?

Either way, the young striker will be playing Premier League football next season.

Whether or not that's for Chelsea remains to be seen.

Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard reports QPR are interested in taking Bamford on loan for the season, which would suit the Blues, as the 20-year-old would be close by for them to keep tabs on his development.

Mourinho will not want him to be sat on the bench, however, so it's clear Bamford will be getting game time in the top flight wherever he goes on loan.

Should he remain at Chelsea, there will come a time when Mourinho looks to blood him further, too.

Bamford is a talented striker and now needs the opportunity to show he can score goals at the highest level.

Jeremie Boga

On the back of his strike against RZ Pellets, Jeremie Boga has been a popular hit across social media.

The French youngster has been making a big impression during pre-season, coming off the bench against Wycombe Wanderers to cause havoc in Chelsea's opening game, while he went one better when he scored in their last outing to rescue a draw.

It was some goal, too, as the YouTube clip above shows.

Boga is a talent who demonstrates the qualities Mourinho likes in a player. He works hard for those around him yet has the ability to make things happen and impact games.

There's plenty of attacking talent ahead of him, but given what he has shown this pre-season, it's difficult to imagine Boga not featuring at some point in 2014/15 for Chelsea.

Lewis Baker

He's the only player on our list who has already made his Chelsea debut, which for Lewis Baker came against Derby County in the FA Cup last season.

Given Mourinho was eager to give him a small opportunity back in January, we can expect he will be among the group of youngsters at the forefront of the manager's thoughts.

Pre-season has seen him play as one of Chelsea's three attacking midfielders, although Baker's natural position is further back.

Given the talent Chelsea already have in that area, he will be eager to continue his development there, as it will give him more opportunities.

Baker enjoys getting forward and scoring goals himself, however, and Mourinho will be mindful of the qualities he can bring to this Chelsea team.
