Nationals' Aaron Barrett and Rockies' Brandon Barnes Engage in Pregame Standoff

There's nothing better than a standoff.

Before Wednesday's game between the Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies, two opposing players engaged in a long standoff after the national anthem.

The matchup: Washington's Aaron Barrett versus Colorado's Brandon Barnes.

The standoff lasted many minutes, with some other players and coaches getting involved periodically. Neither player budged until the game was ready to get underway and the umpires got involved.

As shown in the video, Barnes wanted to end the standoff with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Barrett apparently never saw that, and he ended up winning the battle thanks to the umpires. It is pretty awesome that Barnes tried to convince the umpires to make Barrett leave the playing field first.

Of course, the most famous anthem standoff came before Game 6 of the 2013 National League Championship Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

It's a long season, but shenanigans like this help the players get through the dog days of summer.
