Various media outlets, including ESPN, are reporting early Wednesday morning (and by early, I mean barely after midnight eastern) that the Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forward Kris Versteeg.

The terms have not been formally announced, but rumors are that the deal is similar in size and length to the contract signed by Cam Barker (three years, $9.25 million).

By signing Versteeg, the Blackhawks avoid what could have been a painful and embarrassing situation with a talented young player in the wake of the NHLPA filing a grievance over several of the Hawks' restricted free agents having issues with receiving term sheets from the organization.

The Blackhawks have now signed all seven of their restricted free agents.

The only issue that remains entering next season is depth on the blue line; the Blackhawks have an overabundance of forwards on the roster, but do not have eight experienced defenders on the roster.

By bringing Versteeg back, the Blackhawks could still look to trade a veteran to get relief against the salary cap and bring in a bigger body on the blue line, something General Manager Dale Tallon has openly coveted the entire summer.
