USA, Canada, and Russia Win Again

Team USA beat Slovenia on Sunday by a score of 5-1 as Phil Kessel had a hat-trick. David Booth and Patrick Kane scored the other goals for the Americans as Tim Thomas allowed his first goal of the tournament to Los Angeles Kings superstar Anze Kopitar.

In the meantime, Team Canada slaughtered Team Latvia 7-0. Pascal LeClair was in net for Canada. Latvia has yet to score a goal in this tournament. This combination of wins sets up a key match-up on Tuesday between these two top contenders in the B Grouping.

Over in Group A, Team Russia had a tough time with the Czech Republic as it took them until overtime to defeat their opponents, 5-4. Patrik Elias had a hat-trick for the Czechs. Alexei Morozov scored the game-winner for Russia.

In a game that featured Hurricane team-mates, Tuomo Ruutu’s, Team Finland beat Dennis Seidenberg’s German team by a score of 5-1. The Finns could definitely make some noise in this tournament. They have some big names on their roster.

More about the World Championships later as I am still watching this never-ending game between Dallas and San Jose. Unbelievable goaltending.
