WWE Battleground 2014 Results: Victors Who Will Keep Momentum at SummerSlam

The 2014 edition of the WWE Battleground pay-per-view did not live up to expectations, but there are still several wrestlers who won on Sunday night who built momentum heading into SummerSlam on August 17.

While wrestlers like Chris Jericho and John Cena were victorious on Sunday, they have been set up to lose at SummerSlam. Unlike Jericho and Cena, Rusev and The Miz will carry the momentum they created at Battleground and turn it into another win in August.

Here is a full table of results and the victors who will keep momentum heading into SummerSlam.

Rusev Will Pin Jack Swagger at SummerSlam

In one of the most surprisingly entertaining matches of the night, Rusev managed to defeat Jack Swagger via count-out and build momentum heading into the WWE’s second-most important PPV of the year.

Rusev is a powerful wrestler who has risen to the occasion since joining the WWE’s main roster, and he proved his worth once again at Battleground. Swagger is one of the better technical wrestlers for his size, and the resulting battle between the two men was evenly matched.

There were times during the bout when Swagger looked to be the superior talent, but Rusev ultimately used his power advantage to send Swagger into the ring post before hopping back into the ring and beating the referee's 10-count.

There is always a chance that Swagger gets the win at SummerSlam and pushes this feud into Night of Champions, but Rusev has been booked incredibly strong thus far. Not only has he avoided a loss since joining the main roster, but he has also been flat-out dominant against any challenger put in his path.

Fans should expect Rusev to crush several jobbers over the course of the coming weeks, but the rivalry between the two men is far from over. With Zeb Colter and Lana working the crowd into a frenzy, there will be at least one more PPV match.

The hope now is that the battle continues into SummerSlam, where Rusev gets a more decisive victory and moves onto bigger and better opponents. Sheamus and the United States Championship could be on the horizon.

The Miz Will Defeat Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam

While there are many fans who believe The Miz will fight Sheamus to unify the intercontinental and U.S. championships, the more likely outcome will be a feud between Miz and Dolph Ziggler for the IC title.

Miz won the vacant WWE Intercontinental Championship in the Battle Royal Sunday but only after sliding under the bottom rope and waiting on the outside for much of the match. With Ziggler the only remaining man in the ring and celebrating what should have been his win, Miz came in and tossed The Showoff over the top rope.

It was the perfect move for The Miz’s new and improved heel character.

As much as it will hurt the diehard fans of Ziggler, The Miz will likely square off against him at SummerSlam and collect the win to help build some credibility with his character and the company’s No. 2 title.

Ziggler has worked with Miz in the past and knows how to put on a great match. The new champion needs a wrestler who is talented in the ring to make him look better than he really is, and Ziggler will do his best to steal the show at SummerSlam while still putting over Miz.

The Hollywood Miz character is exactly what the fans want from him, but the WWE must do a better job building his credibility. After watching Chris Jericho come back and destroy him with little effort, many fans want to see him carry the momentum from Sunday's win and translate it into more victories.

A win over Ziggler in August would be ideal for The Miz.
