Finding the Cure for the Dallas Mavericks' Ailing Transition Game

DALLAS - MAY 11: Guard Jason Kidd #2 of the Dallas Mavericks takes a shot against Chauncey Billups #7 of the Denver Nuggets in Game Four of the Western Conference Semifinals during the 2009 NBA Playoffs at American Airlines Center on May 11, 2009 in Dallas, Texas. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing Dirk, Kidd, and Howard pad their lines off of boards.

However, it's putting everyone out of position for transition by putting the wings behind the point guard. Kidd has no one in front of him to pass to since they are all fighting for boards.

The center should be the anchor of the squad by grabbing a majority of the rebounds. At the same time, the wings should be breaking out in front of the point guard to take his pass. Of course, the center won't get all the rebounds, but he should still be the team's rebound leader.

The only time I want Dirk to be dominant on the glass is when the Mavericks are playing small and he is the center. He is always good for a transition three as the trailer.

In my past articles, I have supported trading Jason Terry since he faded away into nothingness in the postseason. Terry was constantly being jammed up by none other than the opposing center.

Another very important role of our center is to set the screens for pick-and-roll plays.  Dampier was ineffective in keeping his man away from Terry while setting his screen.

As soon as Terry tried to cut to the basket, he would hit a wall of human flesh, which resulted in Dampier not being able to move fast enough to block out his man.

We now have diagnosed the ailing Mavericks' offense. The Mavs have signed a possible cure in Marcin Gortat from the Orlando Magic

Who is he you ask?

He's just the big man that backed up Dwight Howard last season.

He is someone who doesn't wear cinderblocks for shoes, nor does he have oven-mitts for hands (I promised a bash). This is someone that can give the Mavericks something they haven't had in recent seasons, a scorer at the center position.

Rumors are running wild now as news that the Mavericks may be working on a two-headed monster for its center.

Will it be Gortat/Okafor or Gortat/Marion?

Will it be someone else?

Only time will tell for the Dallas Mavericks.
