Pro Wrestling Countdown: The 10 Most Underutilized Talents in Wrestling Today
The “Pro Wrestling Countdown” has finally returned!
Today, I will be showcasing 10 of wrestling most underutilized talents in wrestling today. These are 10 men and women who have what it takes to be huge, but are held down by circumstance and the “powers at be.”
In the wrestling world everybody has their favorite talent. The hardest part of watching a wrestling show is when you see the promoter not utilize a talent to its full potential.
You know they have what it takes to do great things, but somebody else dropped the ball. It is really unfortunate when you see a fantastic talent not being used like they should.
This has been going on since wrestling was invented. In 2009 we have young up and comers who aren’t getting the chance they deserve and established talent that have been moved to the back seat so others may get the spot light.
So here it is: the 10 Most Underutilized Talents in Wrestling Today...
No. 10 Mike Knox
Mike Knox has been with the WWE for at least three years and the fact that they have done little to nothing with him is a shame.
All he is right now is "Generic Big Man No. 58", but with The Great Kahli's career in doubt, and Kane and Taker getting up there Mike Knox could fill the big man void in a couple of years.
Hell, even Mark Henry has been talking about retirement.
Give Mike Knox a title, any title and build him up as a monster. Let him beat up Rey Rey and R-Truth and maybe even an upset victory over Jeff Hardy. Smackdown could use all the heels it can get right now. His ting work is solid and he knows how to carry himself.
The WWE could do so much more with Mike Knox.
No. 9 R-Truth
R-Truth a.k.a Ron "The Truth" Killings went from a TNA Champion to a forgettable under card talent on WWE Smackdown.
This guy is electric. Truth is a very talented in ring performer and the fact that the WWE is not capitalizing on him is unfortunate as Truth could be used very well in the mid-card of Smackdown.
He would make a great Intercontinental Champion and is good enough on the mic to carry a one on one feud if only he was given a chance.
No. 8 THE Brian Kendrick
After his tag team partner, Paul London, was released last year Kendrick was moved to Smackdown where he looked to be poised for a main event push, but a drug problem seemed to ruin all that for him.
I love Brian’s ring work and his charisma. No matter what character Brian was playing he always finds a way to connect with the fans. I wish management could see that.
Kendrick has a great confidence about him and can carry a good match with a wide range of people from high flyers to monster heels. The WWE has turned him into a joke on Raw and he will likely be released sooner rather than later. What a shame that Brian's talents are going to waste like this.
No. 7 Rhino
Ahh...Rhino. Ever since the end of ECW Rhino has been misused by every company he has worked for. No one seems to know what to do with him.
He is a great competitor and fans love him, but he is in a very crowded TNA roster and I think putting him in the MEM would really do wonders for him. Sure he is supposed to be a baby face, but a heel turn for Rhino might work.
Either way, Rhino is being wasted in TNA's massive roster.
No. 6 Shelton Benjamin
What can be said here that has not been said already? To the WWE's credit they have moved Benjamin back to ECW, where he will likely be jobbed out to some unknowns before getting a shot at the ECW title.
Benjamin has been with the company since 2002 and people keep waiting for him to jump into the main event. I think the fans are jumping the gun. It takes time to develop a main event star.
If you rush into it it will not end well. Look at Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley. Both were great wrestler, but couldn’t handle the stress so they left. You have to take it slow.
A ECW Championship run is just what Benjamin needs to kick start his accent to the main event. I hope this move works out for Shelton, but until it does he will remain on this list because of his wasted talent.
No. 5 Gail Kim
It looks like someone should have stayed in TNA. I’m just kidding, but seriously.
No, but seriously, Gail Kim is one of the most talented women in the WWE today and now that she has been moved to Raw maybe they will give her a chance to shine.
She was TNA's prize "Knockout" and then she joined Smackdown where we haven't seen much of her since. I hope this move will turn her WWE career around, but I am ashamed of what the WWE has done with her so far.
No. 4 Natalya
This third generation wrestler has some impressive family history. Natalya has been playing valet for the past year or so and I think that is great, but I would really like to see her in the ring.
Smackdown needs all the decent women wresters it can get and Natalya should be doing more than walking DH Smith and Tyson to the ring.
It like the WWE has been pushing the most untalented women and leaving the talented Divas with nothing to do.
All due respect to Michelle McCool and Maryse, but they are nothing compared to Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Natalya, and Melina.
Give us a break WWE.
No. 3 Legacy (Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase)
Why do they still have these two with Randy Orton?
All they do is attack Triple H, Batista, or John Cena when there not looking then get beat in handicap matches. What is the point? Ted and Cody should go off on their own again.
I hope now that Edge is injured they get the tag team titles. Maybe that will rescue them from being Triple H's favorite play toy. I keep waiting for management to do something infesting with them and nothing ever comes.
It's like all the writers care about on Raw is Triple H, John Cena, and Orton. We want more!
These guys should be doing much more. By the way, did you notice that there are almost no face tag teams in the WWE right now? Cryme Tyme and?
No. 2 Beth Phoenix
This is, in my humble opinion, one of the biggest reasons to tune into Monday Night Raw. Or at least she was. Back when she was used on a week to week basis, Phoenix was one of the top talents on Raw. Now she has been demoted to Maryse's entrance-less tag team partner.
Why does the WWE insist on pushing these talents-less blonde girls who have wrestled one or two matches in their whole career?
Beth should be Women's Champion or at least having a feud. I just don't understand the people who writer for the WWE anymore.
No. 1 A.J. Styles
This one might have caught people off guard. Yes, A.J. is featured prominently on TNA Impact every week and is always in a high profile match on all the Pay Per Veiws. So why is he on my list at No. 1?
The fact is that A.J. Styles should be the face of TNA. He should be leading the company, not Kurt Angle, not Sting, not Mick Foley, not even Samoa Joe. A.J. is the greatest talent TNA has and one of the founding father of TNA.
The fact that guys like from WWE and WCW are put above him and allowed to be the face of the company and hold the TNA World Championship really makes me wonder why Styles even puts up with it.
A.J. should be a superstar like the caliber of John Cena (except he shouldn't be anything like Cena). A.J. should have merchandise flying off the shelf and he should be making crappy movies like all the other pro wrestlers.
I am truly baffled by TNA and the fact that have yet to give this guy a break. The last time he held a World Title was 2004. His time is now!
