Reports are swirling that the Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a three-year, $9.25 million contract with restricted free agent defender Cam Barker.
Barker was one of a handful of young players with whom the Blackhawks had been negotiating.
Allegedly many of the restricted free agents did not receive their tender letters from the organization on time, and the NHLPA filed a grievance on Monday.
The third overall selection in the 2004 draft for the Blackhawks, Barker did a nice job of establishing himself as a top-four defender for the team this past season. He recorded 40 points in 68 games with the Blackhawks last year.
The only player remaining among the restricted free agents is wing Kris Versteeg, who finished third in the Calder Trophy voting earlier this summer.
