NBA Records: Top Ten Scoring Assults in NBA History
Over the years, there are players who go above expectations, scoring amounts surreal to the spectators eyes.
The picture above shows two of those great scorers—Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. These two are some of the best scorers in the game ever.
This slide show will show you my all-time best scoring assaults in NBA history.
Note: The players in this list are only going to be shown once with Wilt as an exception. I'll show Wilt Chamberlain twice because he has reached 60 or more points 32 times over his career.
No. 10 Jerry West
The 'Logo,' West scored his career high in points against the Knicks on January 17, 1962; he ignored a cold to set the Knicks on fire scoring 63 points.
No. 9 George Gervin
'The Iceman' coolly scored 63 points in 33 minutes in a losing effort against the New Orleans Jazz, to win the scoring title over David Thompson barely edging him out.
He holds the record with Carmelo Anthony in most points scored in a quarter where he went off for 33 in the second quarter of this game.
No. 8 Rick Barry
Rick Barry is one of the 50 Greatest NBA Players in History. He is one of the greatest pure small forwards to ever play the game and on March 26, 1974 he lit up the Portland Trail Blazers for 64 points.
No. 7 Pete Maravich
'Pistol Pete' scored an unbelievable 68 points against the New York Knicks, even though he fouled out in the game.
No. 6 Michael Jordan
This was an overtime victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers where he not only recorded his career high in points with 69, but he also had his career high in rebounds with 18.
What do you expect, it's Michael Jordan enough said.
No. 5 David Robinson
When you score 71 points on the last day of the regular season to edge out Shaquille O'Neal to win the scoring title, you have to be in the top five.
No. 4 Elgin Baylor
Elgin annihilated the Knicks for 71 points, making him the previous record holder for most points in a game before Wilt came into the picture.
No. 3 Wilt Chamberlain
Wilt Chamberlain is just plain out ridiculous. He has scored 50 or more points in a game 100 times.
In a game against the Los Angeles Lakers, he scored a stammering 78 points in a three-overtime thriller. And yeah, he grabbed 43 rebounds in that game too.
No. 2 Kobe Bryant
'The Black Mamba' gave the Raptors all they could handle. He was hot from the charity line to the three-point line.
Kobe's 81 point game is the greatest scoring assault for a guard in NBA history.
Note: The Lakers were losing by a double digit number before Kobe shot lights out in the second half where he scored 55 points, outscoring the entire Raptors team in the second half.
No. 1 Wilt Chamberlain
The 100-point games is the greatest.
Wilt went 36-63 from the field, 28-32 from the foul line, and only played for 48 minutes. Do the math, that's over two points per minute.
The game was against the New York Knicks whose franchise has been torched countless times over its history as an NBA team. It's only fitting, I guess.
