United Shock Move for Yaya Toure Fails
Friday, July 18
He was undoubted the best midfielder in the Premier League last year but after Yaya Toure's recent public discontent towards his club, Manchester United have tried to tempt the player to Old Trafford.
Jack Wilson of the Daily Star writes that the Red Devils were preparing a £40 million bid for the player after it seemed he desired a move away from Manchester City. But the Ivory Coast international has informed United that he only wants to join Paris Saint-Germain, if he leaves the Etihad.
Toure would have been a sensational signing if United could have made the purchase and shows the caliber of player that Ed Woodward and Louis van Gaal are currently chasing.
Feyenoord Resolute to Keep Jordy Clasie
Thursday, July 17
Manchester United were dealt a blow in their enquiries about the availability of Dutch starlet Jordy Clasie, with his club insisting they do not want to sell.
Chapman quotes the club's sporting director Martin Van Geel as saying:
"At the moment there are talks for our player. Our intention is to keep him because he is happy here and especially because we aim to be leaders with the right mix of youth and potential champions."
Clasie impressed for Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side in the build up to the World Cup and the midfielder is thought to be on the road to developing into a top class footballer.
Manchester United Prepare £63 Million Bid for James Rodriguez
Wednesday, July 16
Manchester United are preparing to battle Real Madrid for the services of World Cup star James Rodriguez.
Anthony Chapman of the Express claims that the Red Devils are readying a club record offer of £63 million for the player who won the Golden Boot in Brazil.
The Monaco attacker has seen his stock rise incredibly in recent weeks and Chapman reports that sources in Spain say he has a verbal agreement with the Galacticos.
But Louis van Gaal will test the water with the massive bid to see if he can capture the young talent.
Manchester United Refuse to Pay Arturo Vidal Asking Price
Tuesday, July 15
With Manchester United close to getting their man, the club have now refused to pay the asking price put on the head of Arturo Vidal by his club Juventus.
David Anderson of the Mirror writes that the Red Devils will not pay over the odds for the midfielder and will not do business at the £34 million asking price.
This comes after some encouraging words about a potential move from Vidal.
He said, per Anderson:
"I’ve heard about the rumours. I’m enjoying my holidays, and when I return to Italy I’ll see what happens. I’m very calm, but anyone would love to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world."
United do not want to become involved in a lengthy bidding war for Vidal and this element alone could decide whether Ed Woodward pursues the transfer, or not.
Vidal is arguably the best central midfielder in world football today and in terms of value―the £34 million quoted does not sound overpriced.
Edinson Cavani Demands Move to Premier League
Tuesday, July 15
Just one year after his huge transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, Edinson Cavani has asked his agent to find him a club in England, with Manchester United on red alert.
Rhys Turrell of the Daily Star reports that the forward is tired of playing second fiddle to Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic and is now ready to quit the French capital.
When asked about a potential transfer, Cavani's agent said, per Turrell:
"In football you never know. Anything can happen. One day you're in one team and they next day you can be in another."
Cavani had a disappointing World Cup and did not shine, as teammate Luis Suarez stole the headlines.
The player has also attracted significant interest from Chelsea, per Turrell, and with Jose Mourinho short of world-class options in the striking department he may find it irresistible to chase the player, should he become available.
Angel Di Maria Reportedly Snubs Paris Saint-Germain for Premier League Move
Monday, July 14
Manchester United have received an unexpected boost in their pursuit of Angel Di Maria after the player reportedly turned down a move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
David Anderson of the Mirror writes that AS report the Argentina forward favours a move to the Premier League, putting England's top sides on red alert.
But the player desires Champions League football, and this could be a deal breaker for Louis van Gaal.
United would hope to persuade him their absence from the world's top club competition would only be for a year if they do speak to his camp.
Di Maria is on the radar of new boss Louis van Gaal, who is due to take charge officially on Wednesday.
Di Maria featured five times for Argentina on their way to the World Cup final in Brazil, per WhoScored.com, but injury cut short the player's participation in the final rounds.
The attacker made an astonishing 22 assists for Real Madrid last year, per WhoScored.com, and he scored on seven occasions in La Liga and the Champions League.
United Target Toni Kroos Confirms Real Madrid Move
Monday, July 14
After Manchester United's very public chase of the player, Toni Kroos has confirmed his intentions to join Champions League holders Real Madrid.
Aaron Flanagan of the Mirror reported that, after the World Cup final, the player said to Brazilian newspaper UOL: “We’ve finished the World Cup in the best way possible. Now I’m going to Madrid, so that’s two dreams achieved."
The 24-year-old German midfielder has been linked with United for a number of months, but it seems that Carlo Ancelotti has now captured the talented player.
