American league injury updates

After successful Tommy John surgery, Athletics pitcher Josh Outman will be shut down until at least the beginning of the 2010 season.

The Blue Jays have placed starting pitcher Scott Richmond on the disabled list after being scratched from his July 5 start.

The Blue Jays hope to have relief pitcher Scott Downs back in the bullpen this week after missing the last couple weeks with a sprained big toe.

Erik Bedard is set to take the mound on July 7 after a successful simulated game on July 3 in which he threw 54 pitches.

The Rangers expect to have slugger Josh Hamilton back in the lineup sometime during the week of July 6, after missing the last month and a half of the season.

Vincente Padilla is listed as day-to-day and is slated to pitch July 7 against the Angels after, after a successful bullpen session on Saturday.

The Rays second basemen Akinori Iwamura may return to the lineup sometime in August, after successful surgery on June 22 on his left knee.

Mike Lowell is scheduled to start batting practice this week after being sidelined last week with a hip strain.

The Royals third basemen Alex Gordon is now rehabbing in Double-A, and is expected to return sometime around the mid-season mark.

Carlos Guillen is set to take batting practice prior to the Tigers next game, and is believed to be returning after the all-star break.

The Twins' starting pitcher, Kevin Slowey, is scheduled to have his wrist examined Monday to determine the severity of his injury.

Chien Ming-Wang was pulled by the Yankees on Saturday after straining his right shoulder, and was later placed on the disabled list.
