David Luiz has revealed a letter sent to him by a young fan that helped him recover after the crushing 7-1 defeat Brazil suffered to Germany in the World Cup semi-final.

Luiz, captaining Brazil in that devastating result, left the pitch in tears.

But according to a girl by the name of Analuz, Luiz is still her champion.

The letter is in Portuguese but has been translated by the Daily Mirror here:

Hi David Luiz,

My name is Analuz.

I saw all of the Brazil games in the World Cup and I liked it a lot watching you play.

I think that you don't need to be sad because you played well and did the best you could. You were a great captain.

Life is like this, sometimes people lose and sometimes people win but people only need to be happy.

David Luiz, you are my champion.

Analuz Penna Reale.

Luiz used the post to thank the girl, calling her a "princess," and to thank the country as a whole for its support.
