It appears that what was once a four-way quarterback controversy is now a two-man show.
According to a statement released by Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis, sophomore QB Demetrius Jones has elected not to travel with the team to Ann Arbor.
"At 2:30 today, while boarding the bus to Michigan, I was notified that Demetrius Jones had decided not to make the trip. I have not spoken to Demetrius and can only say that he missed the team bus. Any additional comment would be without all the facts."According to Notre Dame message boards, including blueandgold.com, speculation has it that Jones is seeking a transfer to Northern Illinois University.
The development comes after Jones was dropped from the No. 1 QB spot after a rough outing against Georgia Tech, and freshman Jimmy Clausen was named the starter for the rest of the season. While the news isn't entirely unexpected, the timing is certainly suspect, as the team is currently preparing to take on the Wolverines in the Big House in less than 24 hours. I'm sure all Irish fans wish DJ well in the future, but the circumstances under which he made his decision are certainly less than ideal.

He just wants a chance to play and it doesnt look like he will get it if he has a freshman starting over him, by the time Clausen career is over with the irish it may be to late for Jones to see the field as a starter, I respect his desicion and i wish him well at Northern Illinois. In the mean time GO IRISH!

The young man is making a wise decision from a football perspective. While ND is a better academic institution, he can still flourish in both academics and sports at NIU. Why wait if your heart is not there to fully support the ND program. Wish him well and move on!!!

No doubt he deserves a chance to play football somewhere, and it certainly didn't look like it was going to happen at ND. More power to him, and as I said, I wish him the best of luck. I just think the timing and manner in which it went down was very unfortunate.
Not as unfortunate as that game, however. Ironically, if DJ had made the trip, he probably would have gotten some reps at QB yesterday...

I totally agree with his decision to transfer, however, this issue should have been resolved during camp. Although Jones was touted as number 1 on the depth chart during the off season, someone in his camp should have made it clear to him that Clausen would eventually be the go to guy because he was recruited for that role; not to sit and chart but to play. Not taking anything away from Jones ability at QB, but if his intent was to make it to the league, he should have held a meeting with Coach Weiss to discuss his role and expectations in the program to find out how he could improve on an individual level so that he would be able to make more of a contribution to the program. Jones should have stayed at ND and made the decision to switch to receiver. I hope that he makes the most out of his opportunity with the Huskies. He has the skills to make an immediate impact in that conference. So, now is Weiss on the hot seat like Ty was?

Weiss, on the hot seat........Of course, NOT, anyone can see that institutions across the nation and the NCAA have differnt playbooks for different people, and you know what I mean!

This dude is a dumbass...He is too stupid to play quarterback. He holds onto the ball too long, and he would rather run than throw. And we all know how that works out allah Michael Vick. He is not a team player. He should be willing to move to another position. He has speed and we need speed on defense. Why not move to another position? This guys is missing a great opportunity at THE GREATEST university in the country. So go on ot Northern Illinois and fade off into obscurity...dumbass!
