According to the Globe and Mail, Francois Beauchemin is asking for a five-year, $22.5 million U.S. contract. That would be $4.5 million U.S. per season. That's the same amount former Canadiens player Mike Komisarek got from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In my view, Beauchemin has waited too long, since most of the teams are close to the salary cap.

What will the Montreal Canadiens General Manager, Bob Gainey, do? The Canadiens still need a defenseman.

Will Beauchemin get the long term contract he's asking for?

More on this as it becomes available.
