Special Report

I am not going to jabber on with this article but I couldn't just let this pass without a word. I simply wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers are with Steve McNair's family.

I wanted to wait until today to write something because we didn't know much about the situation yesterday and websites were flooded with article after article on this story. As it turns out, there was a possible murder-suicide by gun with McNair and a 20-year-old woman he had been dating for a few months named Sahel Kazemi.

Additional bits of information continue to come out today about this tragic event that took place in a Nashville condo McNair had been renting.

One thing that is for sure is how much McNair was loved by the fans and Tennessee fans in particular. We must now endure yet another loss to the human race. The past month has seen a flurry of stars pass away including Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Karl Malden, Ed McMahon, David Carradine and Alexis Arguello, just to name a few.

NFL players and former team mates spoke to reporters yesterday about their affection for Steve McNair and Ravens LB Ray Lewis is said to be inconsolable.

Steve McNair was known for his toughness and his leadership. Even though I am a New York Giants fan, I had to respect what the man with the big smile could do on the field. He played through pain and lead his Titans to the Super Bowl for the very first time.

He was also a three-time pro bowler. Retiring his No. 9 in Tennessee would seem a fitting tribute. Although minimal to the loss itself, it is still a way of keeping his memory alive.

This is a tragedy and I hope the family can gain some closure, but I just don't know how when something this sudden and tragic occurs. There are no words I can say and no action I can do to make this go away.

Our support is needed now to keep the family strong through this sad ordeal. May his passing serve as a reminder to us all, to live our lives to the fullest with the time we have here on Earth.

Some say, the love that we withhold in this life, is the pain we take with us into the next. If that is true, then McNair is smiling in heaven right now.
