Today the 134th run for the roses or as most people like to call it the Kentucky Derby begins at 6 pm. Big Brown is the favorite having won all his 3 previous races. He is no doubt the fastest horse in the field, but speed isn't everything in sports, just ask Reggie Bush. Yes, you have to have some speed to compete but you also have to have a plan and endurance and the sometimes the horses that win the these races have pretty good speed, but what makes them victorious is their stamina to handle the long track. The leader in the beginning usually doesn't win the race, but is in there til the end. Big Brown has exceptional speed and during his 3 races, hes been either in the lead or close to it and then pulled away at the very end including this 12 3/4 length romp in the Allowance - Gulfstream Park

People say he cant do it because he's only ran 3 races as a three-year old and that he made the 20th post position. This is the most hyped horse of the derby, but no horse has won the derby after being posted in the 20th position since the 1920's. As well no one has won the triple crown since 1978.. that's exactly 30 years. Who says both those streaks can't end this year? Just take a look at Big Brown's Florida Derby victory where he led the entire way as proof that this horse definitely has chance to make history.
