Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal took an amazing tactical gamble as his team prepared for a penalty shootout against Costa Rica in the World Cup quarter-finals.
The move paid instant dividends with Krul making two saves to send the Netherlands through to a last-four clash with Argentina on Wednesday.
Van Gaal admitted after the match that he was "a bit proud" of the decision, as BBC Sport reported.
The Dutch coach was quoted as saying:
We all thought Tim was the best keeper to stop penalties.
He is taller and has a longer reach.
It worked out. That was beautiful. I'm a bit proud of that.
Van Gaal has already stated in the same interview that Cillessen will start against Argentina, but does Krul deserve his chance in the semi-final in Sao Paulo on Wednesday?
