Arsenal's chances of signing talented Brazilian and Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo looked to have vanished when the midfielder opted for a renewal in his contract. But Fiorentina had admitted that there was a 25 million escape clause. The Italian club would be willing to let Melo depart to North London for less, if the Gunners allow versatile defender Emmanuel Eboue to come to Fiorentina.

Eboue had a yo-yo season in 2008-09. He was booed by his own and showed some awful performances. But Eboue is a more than useful bench player who is capable of changing matches. The Ivorian is also extremely versatile and is able to play virtually anywhere.

But with the Arsenal midfield needing serious strength, size and ability, Felipe Melo would be a great option for Wenger. The 25-year-old is big and solid and is capable of performing all the defensive duties as well as providing an adequate central partner for Cesc Fabregas.

The deal would still prove to be expensive for Arsene Wenger but many feel it is neccessary need for Arsenal.

Should Arsenal sell Emmanuel Eboue to gain Felipe Melo's services?
