Robin van Persie Shot Cleared off Line by Miraculous Yeltsin Tejeda Block

Mark PattersonUK Staff WriterJuly 5, 2014

Costa Rica took the Netherlands into extra time in their World Cup quarter-final match with the most miraculous of goal-line clearances in stoppage time.

The cross from Daley Blind looked as if it would be finished off by one of several Dutch players, but it broke to Robin van Persie at the far post.

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas was on the floor after having tried to cut out the cross, so it looked as if the Manchester United forward had the goal at his mercy.

Yeltsin Tejeda, scrambling back, had other ideas, somehow turning the shot onto the crossbar and away.
