Steve McNair: A Tribute To One Of The Best

When I was searching the internet, I saw breaking news about Steve McNair.

It said he was shot to death in a double homicide.

I know I’m a Chicago Bears writer, but I grew up watching him and really admired his skills. I couldn’t believe it was true. I was very very sad.

Not only was McNair a great player for the Oilers/Titans and Ravens for 11 seasons, but he was also a great person. It’s a very sad day in the NFL.

A report according to WCCO in Nashville says this:

"Former Ravens quarterback Steve McNair has been killed. Police said McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville. Police said it looked like a double homicide. A female victim was also found dead, reports CBS station WJZ-TV in Baltimore. Police said it looked like a double homicide. A female victim was also found dead. Details were still unfolding. McNair retried from the game last year after playing with the Baltimore Ravens. The 35-year-old McNair guided the Ravens to a 13-3 record in 2006, his first season in Baltimore after 11 years in Tennessee. But he injured his groin during the season opener last season and never regained the form that enabled him to earn a berth in four Pro Bowls. McNair began his career in 1995 with the Houston Oilers, who eventually became the Tennessee Titans. He led the team to four playoff appearances, including the Super Bowl after the 1999 season. He was named co-MVP of the league in 2003, sharing the award with Peyton Manning, after throwing for 3,215 yards and 24 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. McNair fought injuries during the latter part of his career with Tennessee and was dealt to the Ravens in June 2006 for a fourth-round draft pick. He signed a five-year contract."

Steve McNair will go down as one of the best quarterbacks of this era. Best wishes to the McNair foundation and the Nashville community.

I hope that not only the Titans and Ravens tribute him in some way during week one of this season, but also the entire NFL does something in tribute of him. Maybe patches on jerseys or helmets.

Steve McNair, who was nicknamed “Air McNair” should be remembered for his ability to scramble out of the pocket and complete throws down the field.

He was only 36 years old.
