Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Colorado Avalanche have traded Ryan Smyth to the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings will be sending defenseman Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a fifth round pick to Colorado in exchange of Smyth.
After the Kings missed out on the likes of Marian Gaborik, Marian Hossa and Martin Havlat they were able to score a forward who who makes them an immediate playoff contender next season. The Kings have finally added a forward that can aid young Kings forwards Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar.
The Kings do lose a big defensive contributor in Kyle Quincey but with the addition of Rob Scuderi Quincey's loss is not as devistating. Another plus for the Kings in this move is that they move Tom Preissing's contract off of the books. Preissing only played 22 games with the Kings last season and had been rather ineffective since he joined the Kings in 2007.
With Ryan Smyth the Los Angeles Kings have added a proven leader and point producer that they desperately need. Now that they have added Smyth, it seems that hockey might have finally returned to Los Angeles.
