The final round-of-16 match was played on Tuesday, with Belgium facing United States in Salvador. Belgium finished top of Group H, with USA ending as runners up in Group G.

After 90 minutes, the score remained 0-0, though it was an exciting and entertaining affair throughout. Extra time saw Belgium score twice through Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku before Julian Green's strike pulled one back. A late onslaught ensued, but Belgium just about clung on for a 2-1 win.

de Bruyne: Getting the better of USA's defensive midfielders.

Hazard: Dribbling and creating danger, but poor decision making at times.

Fellaini: Barely impacted the match.

Mertens: Not enough impact and subbed off.

de Bruyne: Poor decision-making and end product made up for by a goal.

First-half analysis

Howard: Has made a few routine saves.

Johnson: Had started well but subbed off with injury.

Gonzalez: Looking strong in the air and is constantly talking to his defence.

Besler: A few nervy moments but coping better.

Beasley: A little loose in possession but hasn't really been tested down the left.

Cameron: Poor so far, giving the ball away and not really shutting down spaces ahead of the defence.

Jones: More impressive going forward than protecting his back line.

Zusi: Hasn't started too well, mis-timing passes and managing to air-shot a good chance.

Bradley: Plenty of running as ever, but not finding the touch to link play enough in final third.

Bedoya: Keeping the width but not heavily involved.

Dempsey: Isolated at times but hard-working.

Yedlin: Came on and performed very well at both ends immediately.

Full-time analysis

Zusi: Played poorly.

Bradley: Set-piece delivery was atrocious. Became more involved and took responsibility in extra time.

Bedoya: Never really got at Alderweireld.

Dempsey: Quiet, as he was starved of service, but worked tirelessly.

Wondolowski: Missed two great chances.

Green: Took his goal exceptionally well; he kept the game going.
