Germany tried an elaborate set-piece routine as they attempted to score the opening goal against Algeria—but only ended up providing a laugh as Thomas Mueller fell over.

Several players stood over the ball, and a couple of step overs were planned before the ball was launched into the penalty area.

When Mueller's turn came, it all went wrong.

Was it a deliberate stumble to try to distract Algeria for a split second? Or was it just a bit of slapstick?

Whatever the truth, the move went nowhere, and Algeria cleared to keep the score knotted at 0-0.
