Netherlands Ruined a Magical Mexican Marriage Proposal During the World Cup

The Netherlands know that their come-from-behind win over Mexico broke a nation's heart, but they couldn't have predicted that it would ruin a marriage proposal as well.

The beautiful moment above was captured and uploaded to Twitter. Mexico were up 1-0 and time was running out. In a few minutes, he'd have a fiancee and witness his team reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in a generation.

However, according to Simon Bristow, Wesley Sneijder banged in the equalising goal at almost precisely the same moment.

Minutes later, a controversial penalty saw Klaas-Jan Huntelaar seal the victory, and with it, Mexico's fate.

So for those two, it is presumably a moment they'll remember fondly, tainted by a miserable twist of footballing fate.

At least they've got a story to tell.
