The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cubs in 11 innings after Skip Schumaker hit a walk-off two-run home run off of Chad Fox. Alfonso Soriano who missed a routine pop-up in the seventh inning, redeemed himself in the ninth with a 2-run home run off of Cardinals closer Jason Isringhausen to tie the game up at three to get into extra innings.
The Cubs first run came in the third inning when Alfonso Soriano grounded into a fielder's choice allowing Geovany Soto to score. On the night Soriano was 1-for-6 but picked up the equalizer in the ninth that sent it to extra innings. Rich Hill pitched only 2/3 of a inning where he walked four batters and gave up one earned before he's was relieved by Micheal Wuertz. Jon Lieber put in 3 innings where he allowed five hits but did not give up a run. Chad Fox who worked the 11th took the lost as he gave up the home run to Schumaker. I think Lou should have brought out Marmol to pitch with the runner at third and just one out. But who am I to give advice.
The Cardinals scored in the 1st inning when Yadier Molina was walked with the bases load to score Rick Ankiel. Their second run came of the bat of Brendan Ryan who singled in Adam Wainwright. In the seventh Yadier Molina hit a ground rule double that allowed Ankiel to score to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. Then in the bottom of the 11th Schumaker hit the walk off home run to give the Cardinals the win.
Starter Adam Wainwright pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up just the 1 earned run on four hits while striking out five. Ron Villone who came on in the 9th and pitched two innings took the win as he allowed only 1 hit and struck out two.
With the lost the Cubs now sit 1 1/2 games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central.
Tomorrow afternoon Ted Lilly will take the mound for the Cubs as Kyle Lohse will be on the mound for the Cardinals. Game time is set for 2:45 pm ct. as the game can will be televised on Fox.

Nice work but no mention of Soriano's defense last night? He should have gone to do a rehab stint after he got off the DL befoe coming to Wrigly.
