Earnhardt Jr. finished fifth in the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway Saturday night.
Earnhardt followed up his great Sonoma finish with a strong effort at another one of his more challenging tracks. The driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet spent much of the 400 miles outside the Top 10, but in the second-half of the race he worked his way in to stay for the night. As the laps wound down, Earnhardt forged his series-leading ninth Top-5 finish of the season. The Hendrick Motorsports star climbed one spot to second-place overall in the Chase standings.
