With the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Clippers selected C.J. Wilcox out of Washington.
NBA on ESPN noted the selection following the announcement:
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports points out the Clippers' intentions with Wilcox:
The Clippers plan to keep CJ Wilcox, league source tells Yahoo Sports. No trade.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 27, 2014
Dan Woike of the Orange County Register highlighted the ESPN analysts' thoughts on the selection:
"Specialist. Scorer. Shooter." -- ESPN guys on Wilcox— Dan Woike (@DanWoikeSports) June 27, 2014
Matt Moore of CBS Sports also offers his draft grade of the former Huskies star:
Clippers: B: Clippers wanted a shooter. If a better big was available here, that would be one thing, but there wasn't one. Good fit.— Matt Moore CBS (@MattMooreCBS) June 27, 2014
Wilcox made a name for himself in his final season with the Huskies, averaging 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and a 39.1 three-point percentage. The 6'5" shooting guard comes into a team that already has established superstars like Blake Griffin and Chris Paul on the roster.
With the selection of Wilcox, they have another potential shooter that can make a difference in a few seasons alongside the aforementioned stars.
