Islam Slimani's equaliser on the hour mark ensured that Algeria qualified for the second round of the World Cup for the very first time.

Alexander Kokorin had given Russia the lead in the first half with a goal that they hoped would taken them through, only for Slimani to nod home from a free-kick to spark wild celebrations.

Algeria First Half Analysis

Rais Mbohli: Didn't have a chance with Kokorin's classic header.

Aissa Mandi: Not done much wrong, but not done much right either.

Essaid Belkalem: Beaten for the goal but harsh to criticise.

Rafik Halliche: Needs to show more leadership skills.

Djamel Mesbah: Has recklessly flown into challenges and was eventually booked.

Carl Medjani: Needs to start attacks quicker

Nabil Bentaleb: Spurs fans will recognise his ineffectual display.

Sofiane Feghouli: Trying to make things happen, but affected by early cut.

Yacine Brahimi: Nice touches, but needs to improve link with Feghouli as it might be his side's best hope.

Abdelmoumene Djabou: Somewhat anonymous, although takes up good positions.

Islam Slimani: A decent goal threat.

Hassan Yebda: Energy was useful.

Nabil Ghilas: Did his part.

El Arbi Soudani: Timewasting sub.

Algeria Second Half Analysis

Rais Mbohli: Made a good save from a Kerzhakov effort from a tight angle.

Aissa Mandi: Helped his team get on the front foot in the early part of the second half.

Essaid Belkalem: Did his job well, but Bougherra seems a better player.

Rafik Halliche: Was there for his side when they needed him.

Djamel Mesbah: Calmed down from the first half.

Carl Medjani: A calming presence in the middle.

Nabil Bentaleb: Kept it neat and tidy. Lots of sideways passes.

Sofiane Feghouli: Always the spark for his team.

Yacine Brahimi: Got delivery for the goal, and a player with plenty of quality.

Abdelmoumene Djabou: Drastically improved from the first half. Won the free-kick which produced the goal.

Islam Slimani: Poacher's goal. A real presence upfront.

Igor Akinfeev: Good save from Slimani, but flag was up.

Alexey Kozlov: Getting forward well and a decent outlet.

Sergey Ignashevich: Looking cumbersome.

Vasili Berezutski: Marshalling the defence well.

Dmitry Kombarov: One of his side's best players. Always a outlet and a threat.

Alexander Samedov: The target of some fierce challenges from Mesbah.

Denis Glushakov: Working hard, which you guess is what he's there for.

Victor Faizulin: Hasn't been able to show his quality.

Oleg Shatov: Always looking to make something happen.

Alexandr Kerzhakov: Static, and disappointing.

Alexander Kokorin: Brilliant header for the goal, and has been a threat.

Russia Second Half Analysis

Igor Akinfeev: Will be bitterly disappointed with the goal, again.

Alexey Kozlov: Was forced back too much in second half. gave away foul for goal.

Sergey Ignashevich: Improved. Prevented more goals.

Vasili Berezutski: Was strong when needed.

Dmitry Kombarov: Tailed off from the first half. wasn't as much of an outlet.

Alexander Samedov: Had a great chance early in the second half.

Denis Glushakov: Off at half-time.

Victor Faizulin: Missed his chance to impress.

Oleg Shatov: First half promise faded out as team were forced back.

Alexandr Kerzhakov: Just not good enough. Wasn't enough of a threat.

Alexander Kokorin: Seemed happy once he'd scored, and did little else.

Igor Denisov: Unable to exert any authority.

Alan Dzagoev: Played as though disappointed he didn't start.

Maksim Kannunikov: Too late to do anything.
