Richard Hamiton a Houston Rocket?

Much has been made about the UConn reunion of Richard Hamilton and soon-to-be new Pistons Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. Although Gordon and Villanueva will be teammates, it's not at all certain that Hamilton will be around to join them. 

The Pistons have agreed to a five-year deal worth between $55 and $60 million for Gordon, and former Bucks forward Villanueva will receive a five-year deal worth as much as $40 million.

Signing Gordon presents a huge problem for the Pistons; they already have Hamilton and Rodney Stuckey as their guards. Although Stuckey could possibly play at point guard, and Hamilton could play at small forward while Gordon plays at shooting guard, it's not a highly likely scenario, leaving Hamilton as the odd man out. 

Hamilton, who averaged 18.3 points last season, had trouble adjusting to the sixth man role that former Pistons coach Michael Curry placed him in, so creating the same scenario for him can't bode well.

It's not guaranteed that Ben Gordon would want to come off the bench, either, possibly creating friction between the two stars (a scene that was very apparent last season between Hamilton and Allen Iverson).

This opens up a perfect opportunity for the Houston Rockets to step in and make a deal for Hamilton, which would bring Houston a much-needed scoring threat from a guard/forward who can create his own shot off the dribble.

The Rockets could offer Tracy McGrady's expiring contract to the Pistons in exchange for the 10-year pro; they had already shown interest in McGrady before last year's trade deadline, but a deal couldn't be reached. 

With the potential signing of Marcin Gortat and the potential trade for Hamilton, it would mean the Rockets are committed to building toward the future, and they could let Ron Artest walk, saving them a great deal of money.

Hamilton is a superstar player that leads quietly and gets the job done night in and night out, and would be a perfect player in the Rockets' offense. He could start at the shooting guard position with a potential starting five of Brooks, Hamilton, Battier, Scola and Gortat.

It remains to be seen what the Rockets will do, but this makes sense for both sides.
