Diego Godin put Uruguay through to the knockout stages with a late goal off of a corner kick to help Uruguay to a 1-0 victory.
Italy were reduced to 10 men before Uruguay finally made their breakthrough.

In a fairly uneventful first half, Mario Balotelli learned that he would miss a potential match in the knockout stages through suspension after a reckless challenge which ended with his knee in Alvaro Pereira's head.
In the second half, Claudio Marchisio was sent off for a studs-up challenge, leaving Italy to try and hold on against Uruguay with 10 men.
