Auburn is recruiting at a high level once again, as the Tigers are No. 6 in the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings

Head coach Gus Malzahn and his coaching staff have done a great job on the recruiting trail, and landing the nation's No. 1 class next February is a realistic feat for them. For that goal to be met, Auburn is going to have make sure it secures commitments from several top-tier recruits.

Landing these five prospects would be a great start.

D'Andre Walker, DE

1 of 5

At 6'2" and 218 pounds, D'Andre Walker has the size and frame of a linebacker. However, the 4-star prospect is a defensive end at heart.

Walker is at his best when he can put his hand down, pin his ears back and get upfield after the quarterback. He needs to win early with quickness as a pass-rusher, but he has the speed to factor in pursuit on running plays away from him.

Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee are the Georgia native's top schools, per 247Sports. The Tigers lead in Walker's 247Sports Crystal Ball.

Darius Slayton, WR/CB

2 of 5

Darius Slayton is a 4-star recruit who can play receiver and cornerback at a high level. The 6'2", 181-pounder has good short-area quickness, plus he uses his length well on the field.

Slayton, who is from Georgia, would be welcomed with open arms on The Plains. It wouldn't be a shock to see the Tigers start him off as a big corner.

Auburn, Georgia and Vanderbilt are his leaders, according to 247Sports. Per his 247Sports Crystal Ball, Slayton is all but certain to yell "War Eagle" next February.

Jeffery Holland, OLB

Among the top defensive players in the country is linebacker Jeffery Holland. A 4-star prospect, Holland is a Florida native who can cause a lot of problems for offenses.

The 6'2", 230-pounder has great quickness, speed and range on the flanks. He can crash off the edges with force as a pass-rusher, plus Holland has enough athleticism to be solid in coverage one day.

He's a candidate to receive an extra star by the end of this cycle. It's Florida versus Auburn right now for him, via 247Sports. The Tigers could very well come out on top.

Daron Payne, DT

4 of 5

A 5-star defensive tackle from Alabama, Daron Payne is Auburn's top in-state target right now. He is a rock in the middle of the trenches who can clog holes and beat up offensive linemen at the point of attack.

Payne, who is 6'2" and 330 pounds, also has some quickness and explosiveness to his game. He's keen on Auburn, Texas and Alabama, says 247Sports.

If the Tigers wants the No. 1 class in the nation, then Payne is someone they must land.

On June 6, Payne told Rob Cassidy of Rivals.com (subscription required), "I've been to Auburn probably nine or 10 times and a whole bunch more at Alabama. I won't need to take officials there. I've been there enough to know."

Torrance Gibson, QB

5 of 5

Head coach Gus Malzahn runs a spread offense that is keyed by having a mobile quarterback. That is why 5-star dual-threat quarterback Torrance Gibson would be a great fit on The Plains.

The lefty from Florida is already 6'4" and 200 pounds, and he's only going to get bigger. Gibson has good arm strength, plus his accuracy is solid when he gets in a rhythm. His speed, quickness and natural running ability would allow him to make some highlight plays for the Tigers.

A commitment from Gibson would give Auburn a huge boost toward the No. 1 spot in the recruiting rankings.
