Yesterday was just another classic Yankee game full of average pitching and great hitting. Through 5 the score was 3-3 with a strong bat from Melky.

Joba was mediocre allowing 3 earned runs in five and a third innings. Their bullpen was strong with good pitching Coke and Hughes in the 6th and 7th.

Then, in the bottom of the 7th, A-Rod bombed a 2-Run Home Run deep into the left field stands. In the top of the 8th, the Mariners responded with 3 consecutive singles to tie the game.

The bottom of the 8th was when the game broke open. The Yankees scored 3 runs with a double from Melky and Matsui and a 2-run single from Jeter. The yankees took the lead 8-5 and Rivera closed it out striking the last better out. He threw the first and last pitch making his save total 501.

Because of a devastating Red Sox lost, they are now only 2.5 games back.
