Earnhardt Jr. finished third in the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway Sunday afternoon.
The day of surprises didn't stop with race winner Carl Edwards at Sonoma. Earnhardt had an equally impressive performance. He raced from the back to the front on two occasions during the 110-lap event. Earnhardt overcame hard contact with Matt Kenseth mid-race and soldiered on to his first-ever Top-5 finish at Sonoma Raceway. It was his series-leading eighth Top 5 of the 2014 season. The driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet remains third overall in the driver point standings as the series leaves Sonoma.
