Top 5 Earning Pro Athletes During a Recession
Yesterday morning I heard about the LA Lakers signing Kobe Bryant to a three year, 90 million dollar contract extension. I was befuddled by that amount of money. I know that in professional sports it is just the nature of the beast. Yesterday afternoon we found out that my wife is most likely losing her job next week, my boss cut the work staff by more than 30% and the knife keeps carving. Over 10% of Americans are unemployed, an astronomical rate. People are losing houses, families, lives, but here is to the pros that keep us routing!
The Cleveland Cavalier's newest addition, O'Neil made $35,000,000 last year. He is now playing a supporting role next to "King" Lebron so we should see some interesting dynamics soon. I am sure Shaq could have doubled his money had he made more movies. We all know that his real talent is acting.
#4- Alex Rodriguez
A-Rod, our pretty little slumper earned $39,000,000 last year and got his team where? Hmm, both he and Jeter are on the top ten earning list right now and how did the Yankees finish last year? I forgot.
King James, the young phenom earned $42,410,581 last year. The youngster who drove a Hummer in high school is all grown up and getting his very own Shaq. He promises to love it and feed it and hug it....
#2- Phil Mickelson
The long haired lefty of the PGA, Phil earned $52,950,356 last year. Not bad for playing golf. The guy plays golf for a living. The activity that most guys do when they play hooky from work, he plays for a living. And he makes millions. I hate my parents right now.
Another golfer, marketing genius and just general rich guy Tiger Woods brought home $99,737,626 last year. Yeah yeah we know. He owns the world, he is the new Sinatra. Mega-yacht, super-hot wife, millions of dollars, we know. Get in some trouble already Tiger! The squeaky-clean thing is lame. With all that money...I don't know buy an army of midgets and take over Nebraska or something. Make it a huge golf course and name it Tigeria.
